Regulated Functions:

Pak Table – Follow established procedures to assemble blood paks, which include attaching the donor unit numbers and test tubes used in collection.

Pak Table Training Agenda:

** Day 1: (New regulated volunteers only): Foundation Training

(ARCBS Orientation, GMP Basics; Documentation Basics) - 8:30am-5:00pm

** Day 2: Foundation Training (OSHA Training) 8:30am-10:30am , and Pak Table Task Training - 10:30am - 5:00pm

  • In order to ensure that all blood is safe and meets Federal requirements, volunteers that wish to assist with Pak Table are required to complete training prior to performing those tasks at blood drives.

Non-Regulated Functions:

Donor Canteen – Ensure that blood donors have snacks and drinks following donation; Award donors with recognition pins, as appropriate; Encourage donors to return for future donations; Serve as timekeeper and reaction monitor.

Donor Escort – Accompany donors to and from donor beds; Transport units of blood from the donor room to a Mobile Unit Assistant (MUA) station.

Donor Processor – Welcome donors upon arrival and direct them to the registration station; Act as an ambassador to promote a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere; Inform donor on length of the entire donation process; (there may be extenuating circumstances causing delays); Brief donor on pertinent information.

Exit Processor – Thank donor for their donation and re-sign to a blood drive in the next 56 days; Check donor card for initials and current date; Determine eligibility for gallon pin; Make sure donor feels good about giving.
